Octopussy and The Living Daylights. Two original typescripts, owned by Richard Chopping.
[Jonathan Cape], n.d. [1965]. THE ONLY KNOWN TYPESCRIPT for Octopussy and The Living Daylights. Richard Chopping's signed original typescripts for the two James Bond short stories, each inscribed by the book jacket illustrator. Octopussy, 46pp., and The Living Daylights, 35pp., quarto, stapled sheets. Minor creases and rust marks; near-fine. Both copies with a few minor changes to the published text. Housed in a custom cloth clamshell box. The vast majority of Fleming's [typed] manuscripts are held at the Lilly Library, University of Indiana. Typescripts taken from the manuscript are scarce in commerce, with just a handful recorded. The Living Daylights manuscript is held at the British Library, whilst the location of the Octopussy ms. is not generally known; the Lilly Library do not possess a typescript example for either title. This copy is from the important collection of Dr Martin Schøyen (b.1940), whose renowned archive of world heritage manuscripts covers a wide variety of subjects, eras and civilizations. Much of the Schøyen Bond material was sourced by the award-winning Ian Fleming bibliographer Jon Gilbert. A detailed hardcover catalogue is available separately. Item #155959
