London: Jonathan Cape, 1965. INSCRIBED FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp.159. Publisher's black cloth-effect paper over boards with gilt titles to spine and blind-stamped bullet-holes to upper cover in the price-clipped dust-wrapper based on the familiar 'trompe l'oeil' designs which decorated the Ian Fleming first editions. A lightly handled copy, signed and inscribed by the author to flyleaf "James Baxter / from / Kingsley Amis / (Death to M)". With prize label opposite from the prestigious Rossall School, Lancashire, the sister school of Marlborough College Amis' presentation copies are uncommon, particularly so when naming a series character. Scarce thus. Amis' first venture into the world of James Bond. He also wrote the light-hearted 'Book of Bond' in 1965 and the first post-Fleming 007 novel 'Colonel Sun'. Item #42793
