London: Jonathan Cape 1958. FIRST EDITION, First Impressions. An example of each of the commercially available bindings used for the first impression, comprising FIRST STATE BINDING A, being plain black Linson material; FIRST STATE BINDING B, being plain black Fabroleen material; and the SECOND STATE BINDING, being black Fabroleen material blocked with 'Dancing Lady' design in brown. All three bindings have silver stamping to spine and plain white endpapers. Used copies with some light wear to covers, some edge-spotting, no inscriptions, all lacking jackets. First mentioned binding has a small pen mark to lower edge and endpapers neatly replaced. Each book contains a bibliographical note in pencil. Binding A in particular is most elusive in commerce and to my knowledge no such set has previously been offered for sale. Item #42943
