'Operation Thunderball' contained within 'Now and Then' magazine, Number 107 Spring, 1961.
London: Jonathan Cape Ltd., 1961. [Fleming] Pp.24. Price ninepence. Magazine format, illustrated. Publisher Jonathan Cape's literary magazine for the publishing industry, booksellers and the public alike. Contains the first separate appearance of S.P.E.C.T.R.E.'s ransom letter sent to the Prime Minister, extracted from the novel 'Thunderball' (Chapter 1 'Fasten your lap-strap' p74-6). The book-form novel was published on 27th March 1961 and it is quite likely this extract appears before that date; the magazine is the 'Spring 1961' number but, like most periodicals, would likely have been despatched just prior to the season in which it would have been current. This extract is accompanied by an exclusive introductory paragraph. Near fine condition. NOTE; features an error to title page, listing 'Summer, 1961' instead of 'Spring 1961' as listed on the cover. The 'Spring, 1961' date is believed correct, as this would fit the consecutive Spring/Autumn release pattern, as adopted by the publisher at this time. No corrected copies identified. Item #62966
