London: Grafton, 1987, 1988. [Bibliography/biography] FIRST EDITION, together with FIRST PAPERBACK. Octavos (24 x 16cm), (18 x 11cm), pp.336; 336. Publisher's hardcover in jacket and publisher's softcovers. Both books in fine condition (paperback has expected toning to paper stock, minor rubs to spine). An indispensable guide to the writings of Len Deighton, plus an interview with him contained within. In the 60s, Deighton was the chief rival of fellow Cape-published spy writer Ian Fleming, who had championed his first novel 'The Ipcress File'. Deighton would contribute to several James Bond screenplays and wrote the e-book 'James Bond: My Long and Eventful Search for His Father' (2012), about his relationship with Ian Fleming and Bond producers Harry Saltzman & Kevin McClory. This copy is from the collection of Jon Gilbert, the bibliographer of Ian Fleming and a colleague of Edward Milward-Oliver (pencilled ownership). Item #65567
